We celebrate this quincentenary year of Pedro Guerrero's birth with a sumptuous programme of works by these three men who knew one another well, obviously influenced one another, and who were likely close personal friends. The Guerrero family lived and worked together in Seville and Osuna, and in both places were accompanied by the younger Alonso Lobo (1555 - 1617), who eventually became Francisco's assistant at Seville cathedral toward the end of Francisco's life. Less well-known, however, is the legacy of his elder brother, Pedro (born c.1520): an esteemed musician in his own right with an international career spent partly working in Rome and ostensibly also one of Francisco's first teachers. One of Spain's leading composers of the 16th century was Francisco Guerrero (1528 – 1599), now well-known and loved among modern audiences on a par with Tomás Luis de Victoria.
